Néstor García Canclini is an Argentinian cultural theorist and sociologist. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1939 and received his PhD in sociology from the University of Paris. He is regarded as one of the most prominent scholars of cultural studies in Latin America. Canclini has written extensively about the interfaces between culture, globalization, and development, and his work has been translated into numerous languages. Some of his well-known publications include "Hybrid Cultures: Strategies for Entering and Leaving Modernity," "Consumidores y Ciudadanos: Conflictos Multiculturales de la Globalización," and "Imaginarios urbanos." He has received numerous awards for his contributions to intellectual and academic thought, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Book Award in Argentina, and the Prince Claus Award. Currently, he is a professor of anthropology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico.
